These small amphibious dragons are found in both salt and fresh water, though both prefer shallows and warmer climates. The saltwater Kalipas are often found in coral reefs near the tropics, while fresh water Kalipas will live in rivers near the equator or even in ponds and lakes within rainforests.
The average length of saltwater Kalipas is between 13-16ins (the largest ever recorded was 21in) while fresh water Kalipas are between 10-12in and are more purple and white in color compared to their saltwater cousins.
Both kinds are highly intelligent and able magic users. They are shy though mischievous and will steal food and shiny objects from anyone picnicking along their banks. Kalipas are very fond of sweet wine and cinnamon pastries and will readily accept them as offerings. It is unwise, however, to offer them gold, as faerie creatures are encouraged to misbehave when offered the precious metal. Kalipas will give gifts in return for offerings, although they are likely stolen.
